Introducing Maryborough Clay Target Club - Queensland, Australia
|
|
|
Maryborough Clay Target Club was originally established in 1962 at Saltwater Creek on the northern outskirts of the city. In 1978 the club moved to its present location on 9.75 hectares at Island Plantation, where it is still going strong. |
||
| The club is affiliated with the Australian Clay Target Association and the Queensland Clay Target Association and holds the appropriate permits from the Queensland Police Weapons Branch for the club and the range. | |

The grounds are ideal with a dense background of pine trees. Three down the line layouts are all equipped with Canterbury Voice Release systems and Gemini Automatic traps. The first Gemini was installed in February 2002 and the remaining two in 2004. Previously we operated Winchester White Flyer manual traps. The clubhouse is humble but has good canteen facilities and seating with a good view of the grounds. Visitors are made most welcome and the club has the reputation of being one of the friendliest clubs around. | |
| Maryborough
has earned the name "Heritage City" with its wealth of old buildings.
The city was the original port of entry for many settlers arriving in Queensland
in the 1800s and the Wharf Street Precinct is steeped in history. Nearby
Hervey Bay is the gateway to World Heritage listed Fraser Island and is
well known for the annual migration of humpback whales as they take a relaxing
break in Platypus Bay with their calves before resuming their long journey
back to Antarctica. The whales can be seen from August to October each year.
During the winter months (June, July and August) Maryborough Clay Target Club sees visitors from southern states who have come to enjoy the Queensland sunshine and do some shooting while they are here. Everyone seems to have heard of us through Lost Bird's column in the Clay Target Shooting News, "Maryborough Tid Bits". The Clay Target Shooting News is the monthly journal of the Australian Clay Target Association.Unfortunately they no longer accept Norm's articles and shooters miss his jokes and shooting anecdotes. The club holds a competition shoot on the fourth Sunday of each month with several major shoots each year. For full details see the Program page. Practice is held weekly on Wednesdays or Saturdays (see the roster on the Program page). |
